Research from Vanguard’s Advisory Research Centre suggests that clients in the UK want more than numbers – they crave confidence, personalised plans, a strong relationship and peace of mind. Client Connect: The Vanguard Advice Survey1 discovered:

  • 92.5% of investors say “a human to talk to” matters more than investment performance or fund selection;

  • 46% of clients prefer in-person meetings with their adviser more than once a year; and

  • 94% of investors believe trust in their adviser is critical to overall satisfaction.

The centre of gravity has been shifting for financial advisers as client relationships become the core of an adviser’s value proposition. Spending more time with clients, including holistic financial planning, delivers value beyond portfolio returns. Vanguard research2 found that 86% of advised clients report having greater peace of mind when thinking about their finances, compared with managing them on their own, while advised investors are roughly half as likely (14%) as self-directed ones (27%) to experience high levels of financial stress.
