Key information

Friday 22nd September 2023

Site open from 10am. Event to start at 11am

Holmbush Estate, Crawley Road, Faygate, West Sussex, RH12 4SE

1. Remember your ID and ticket - An absolute must!

You won’t get in without them! Get ready to flash your ID at check in, alongside your QR code which will be scanned on arrival.

Government ID’s will be needed (no work passes), and your QR code can be found on your confirmation email – to find it, search “Registration confirmation for Vanguard Tough Mudder 2023”, it will look a little something like this:

2. Check your information pack

This contains EVERYTHING you need to know about your Vanguard Tough Mudder event. Start times, what’s in the village, obstacle/course highlights and all the FAQs – you can access this by logging into your Tough Mudder event using your professional email address.

3. Prepare for all eventualities

This is the UK and although that normally means grey skies and rain, sometimes the weather can be as unpredictable as Shocking Volatility. Check the weather for RH12 4SE the night before. If it is cold and raining you’ll need extra layers (for during and afterwards) and extra carrier bags but if by some miracle it’s looking sunny make sure you’re slapping on that high factor sun cream, bring the sunnies and plenty of water. Seriously, sunburn clashes with the red headband.

4. Bring clean clothes and a towel to dry off

No matter what happens, you’ll be muddy. Bring a clean set of clothes and a towel to dry yourself off after the hose down (yes, the hose down).

And if you still haven’t prepped your event day gear, then don’t forget to check out Tough Mudder’s advice on the best kit to wear on course: The 2023 Style Guide.

5. Get some carbohydrates in at breakfast

Similarly to the night before, priming the body with carbohydrates at breakfast is one way to ensure that your performance does not suffer during the day. Stick to breakfast meals and products you have used in the build up to The Vanguard Tough Mudder Takeover; porridge, toast, cereal, bagels and fruit juice are all great choices.

6. We've got you a bag - don't bring the plastic

Believe it or not, the most common question at Tough Mudder’s Information Desk is if there’s any spare plastic bags. We don’t want the plastic, so we’ve got you a spare bag at the finish line.

7. Map out a meeting point

If you’re coming with a team then pick a point to meet in case you get separated through out the day. Of course you’ll take on the course together but once you’ve got your headband and people are disappearing off to get changed, find food and drink or buy sweet event-day merch it’s easy to lose track. Plus, with so many people in one place and the fact that Tough Mudder takes place in a big old field, don’t expect much signal.

So pick a spot and agree with everyone that if you get split up that’s where you’ll reconvene – ‘The Vanguard Village’ makes most sense.

8. Eat a meal you enjoy afterwards - you deserve it

Eat a meal you enjoy, this is a celebration. The meal should be rich in carbohydrates  to top up those stores in the body which are likely to be pretty low having just completed the course. There will be plenty to choose from on the day, so enjoy something special on us.

9. Get active with Vanguard

Enjoy the day – this is meant to be fun!

10. Double check you've got you ID and your ticket

Please refer back to point one…

For one day only, Vanguard will be taking over Tough Mudder’s London South 5km course. Consisting of 13 muddy obstacles, you’ll need to work as a team to overcome them.  You can find out more by visiting the Tough Mudder website.

The course is 5km.

This event is for industry-professionals only, unfortunately this is not for end-clients. Please do feel free to invite your colleagues along though, the more the merrier!

This event is for industry-professionals only, unfortunately this is not for end-clients. Please do feel to invite your colleagues along though, the more the merrier!

Teams are not limited to a maximum capacity, so you’re welcome to join with as many colleagues as possible. And don’t worry, if you’re entering as an individual, there will be more than enough people to get you around, and make some friends as you do it!

You will need to appoint a team captain, who then, when booking their spot via the Tough Mudder registration, will need to create a team. Then when other members of the team register themselves as individuals, they can then join the team by searching the team name when prompted. You can then join the team. You can join a team at any time. All members of your team will then run together.

Yes! All participants will need to register as an individual and can join a team from there. Vanguard crew will be on hand for anyone looking to enter, completing the course alongside you.

We have some top training tips on the website, including 5-week training plans pitched at 'Completer' and 'Competer' level, produced by Tough Mudder’s trainers. We will also be sharing obstacle-specific exercises as we build up to the event. And if you really want to take it one step further, you can sign up for Tough Mudder’s training courses here.

The Vanguard Tough Mudder Takeover is not a race. The event is a personal challenge with the goal of overcoming obstacles and completing the course, with a team. We will however, of course, have some unique prizes up for grabs on the day.

Whilst all obstacles are designed for you to succeed with a little help from your teammates, you do not have to complete every obstacle and it will be easy to navigate around them!

1. A good pair of running shoes (that you’re not too attached to) with good cushioning, traction, and drainage.

2. Form-fitting, light weight, breathable gear (always check the weather and adjust accordingly).

And if you want your peers to know who you are, wear your company colours loud and proud.

Yes, you can wear contact lenses whilst on the course.

Join us any time from 10am, but please arrive for an 11am start with the first wave of runners setting off shortly after, once you cross the finish line, grab a drink and lunch on us. All participants will be expected to leave the grounds by 3:30pm.

There are designated male and female changing and hose down facilities available on site.
